Such a beautiful illustration of a modern day dilemma. How many of us have begged the gods for just a few more hours in a day, knowing full well that it wouldn't make a difference. I'm particularly fascinated by the idea of time as a drug or substance, regulated by the government, no less.
Great piece by Faith Rice-Mills. Can't wait to see what she publishes next.
This short story hooked me in the first few words. It is a fast-paced, twisting story about needing more time, and being able to purchase it - at a price! Is it a price that is worth paying? Very interesting read and leaves you thinking. I can't wait to read more by this author, and I wish I could buy some of that stuff, too!
The author has paired two timely issues in our busy, frenzied, distracted world. We desire time to do the things we think are important to us and then if we don't have it, we injure ourselves by losing sleep, eating too much because we're anxious or take drugs to keep us going. Our inablity to focus, set goals and manage our time to spend as effectively as possible without these crutches is a good description of why time has become a high-priced, illegal commodity, metaphorically speaking, in our present culture. The author is sounding a warning about how we should be content with life and stop chasing the siren song of constant attention and materialistic success.
